Sony’s (SONY) “The Garfield Movie” won this weekend at the summer box office with just $14M as overall domestic revenue dropped 69% year-over-year. Year-to-date revenue is also down 24% when compared to last year. Garfield has crossed the $100M mark overseas for a global cume of $152.2M.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: John Krasinski and Paramount’s (PARA) “IF” placed number 2 with $10.8M in its third outing. Behind it was Warner Bros’ (WBD) “Furiosa” at number 3 after falling 59% to $10.75M. 20th Century and Disney (DIS) “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” placed number 4 with another $8.8M to rank as the top grossing summer movie to date with $337.1M worldwide. Rounding out the top five, Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “The Fall Guy” grossed an estimated $4.2M for a global total of $157.9M.
